PARIS VAN JAVA

ABOUT BANDUNG CITY
CITY OF FLOWER - PARIS VAN JAVA

Bandung is the capital of West Java and Indonesia's third largest city. In colonial times, it is known as the "Paris of Java" because of its European ambience and sophistication. Bandung shared with Miami a fine legacy of Tropical Deco architecture dating from the 1920s. Bandung is also called city of flowers (kota kembang) and situated on a plateau in the beautiful Parahyangan mountains.

Bandung hosted the Asia Africa conference in 1955. Now, Bandung is a center of higher education (for example ITB, UNPAD, UNPAR, and other universities - see Science and Technology page), commerce, aircraft Industry, and shopping (particularly for shoes, textiles, clothing, and denims - there's even a "jeans street" in which you'll find blocks of jeans stores).

How to get there

If you are using the train

The best way to get Bandung from the other cities in Java is by train. State operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia offers frequent services between Jakarta and Bandung. Even the fastest services take almost three hours, making this a slower option than the shuttle buses, but the scenery between Jakarta and Bandung is beautiful. The railroad passes mountains and padi terraces. Don't miss this view when traveling by train.

Use the AC (air-conditioned) coach if you cannot cope with the tropical heat. The executive class is recommended, especially from Jakarta the Argo Gede, Harina from Semarang, and Argo Wilis from Surabaya. When you plan to get Bandung from Yogyakarta, you can get the same train Argo Wilis. Most hotels in Bandung provide free transportation from train station to the hotel.

If you are from other city you can using bus, taxi, rent a car, here is information for you

When you arrive at Soekarno Hatta International Airport (Cengkareng-Jakarta), ask the information centre to get more detail, many tour-travel companies offer minibus, car rental, or taxi service to Bandung, departing upon demand.

With 7-10 seater minivans leaving every few minutes, the transportation service company market between Jakarta and Bandung is fiercely competitive. Roughly speaking, services can be categorized as either door to door (chartered car or van that takes your group exactly where you want to go) or point to point. Many companies offer both.
A select list of larger transportation companies:

Cipaganti www.cipaganti.co.id
Primajasa, tel. +62-22-6073-992 (Bandung), tel. +62-21-8009-545 (Jakarta). Direct shuttle bus service from Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta Airport to Bandung Super Mall.

X-Trans, Jl. Blora 1 AB, Central Jakarta, 62-21-3150-555.

Can I use the airplane ?

The fastest way to get Bandung from Jakarta or other cities is by plane. Bandung's Hussein Sastranegara airport has a difficult location among the mountains and has only limited services with small planes. The air service is excellent and when you get Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung, you can take a taxi to hotels or make a call for pick up service.

COZY PLACE TO ENJOY FOOD

From many cozy place to enjoy your holiday here is Kampung Daun one of the best place
in Lembang Bandung restaurant

Kampung Daun

Jl. Sersan Bajuri Km. 4,7 No. 88, Cihideung Lembang, Bandung Jawa Barat - Indonesia PH 1: (022) 278-7915 PH 2: (022) 278-4572

Kampung Daun
isn’t merely a restaurant and should never be considered someplace to simply ‘have a meal’. Rather, stepping into Kampung Daun is to slide into another world, a throwback craftsman village full of stone walkways, clay pot torches, flaming cauldrons, minstrels and traditional-clad waiters rushing between the 37 saung tucked immaculately into a deep jungle valley and leaving even the most jaded diner breathless. After dinner, don’t forget to take a walk around to admire the impressive natural cliff face and small stone bridges spanning the rushing rapids, witness the making of traditional candies, noodles and desserts, visit the arts gallery and listen to the music. There are so many local dishes to try and even the elaborately dressed Nasi Goreng presented in on a platter of carved coconut shell bowls and saucers is unrecognizable from its warung-produced cousin. Other specialties include the excellent Oxtail Soup, Mie Tek-tek, and Kampung Daun Beef Ribs with buttered rice. For a sweet drink, try the Dwi Warna, which uses fresh strawberries, sirsak fruit and ice cream to recreate the red and white of the Indonesian flag. Featuring a different region each month, Kampung Daun features special dishes, staff in regional costumes and crafts as well as Saturday night dance performances beginning at 7:30. The price for two should run around Rp. 130 – 160.000.
